Hello,

I'm a BEng qualified Electronics Engineer and hobbyist, who, for some stupid reason, has no experience with PCB CAD software (AutoCAD and Solidworks for mechanical stuff, but nothing else). I'd like to apply for a job which lists this as a required skill and would greatly appreciate a little advice.

Can someone point me in the direction of a fairly industry standard PCB CAD package? Preferably one with a free trial (or even freeware). What are the other major PCB CAD programs?

Many thanks in advance,
Rob

I'm using 'Workbench Multisim 6.2' to all my PCB design
I hope this video will explain one of program advantages

I use Multisim 8 (Schematic Design and Simulation) with Ultiboard 8 (PCB Design) and Ultiroute 8 (Optimized routing process). They work together to do whatever you want.
Powerfull and easy to use programs!

I use PCBCAD28 which I got off ebay.

It has the usual schematic, schematic to pcb converter, PCB design, pcb to gerber translator, gerber viewer.

The PCB design even includes an auto placer and 127 layer autorouter.
The bloke selling it says he sells it at a no profit price that just covers his costs so its a lot of software for very little money.

You wont find a free professional CAD package to learn from for nothing !!!!

You need to find out what he company is using and see if you can get a demo version.
