TI is in christmas mode and wants to literally give away their "PI", well...it's not an rasberry PI, but it's a devboard for ARM, Cortex 4M...not that I know that much about it (hence why I'm grabbing mine).

For 5 bucks...you can't really go wrong, heck....you might even win one, sign up at the website link under, only ONE per person:

http://www.ti.com/ww/en/launchpad_site/ste...ris-launchpad-b

We DF'ers just LOVE freebies & cheap devkits smile.gif

Sweet, definitely better than the weakass msp launchpads.

Seems kinda short on IO though, compared to say stm32 discovery series. Think I'll get some regardless, though.

does ti have a library for them? know about the licence..? ST's library for their ARM stuff is pretty.. fail licence.

ps - I've played around a bit with ST's take on cortex M4F, seems pretty bitchin' so far.

is "bitchin'" a good thing or bad?

I have STM32F407V dev boards on order from mikroElectronica. Did I waste my money?

Signed up for $5 deal, though not sure what I signed up for

Yeah, I'd be a chimpanzee with something like that. I'll leave it for someone who knows what it is laugh.gif

yeah...Ok..... Well I get that it is M4 processor, but the video is pretty fuzzy regarding the board it is fitted to.

I don't expect much for $5, but I would trust JoOngle not to lead me astray.

So what else does the board have apart from a processor?

And does $5 get me the board, or is there $25 shipping on top?

The details are really hazy, which makes me suspicious.

But if I really do stand to lose only $5 then maybe I don't care.

The email is just to possibly win one, and get an email when they are ready.

some better info in this pic.. not sure how accurate it is.

user posted image

Chip on the top is presumably debugger/programmer. Nice thing about this being ARM is you shouldn't have to use shitty demo versions of expensive commercial compilers, you can just use GCC. Hopefully there is a standalone tool for the debugger, or it works on linux... kinda think the other launchpad only worked inside some retarded IDE.

Wonder if the second USB connector there is brought to the USB on the arm.. would be stupid if it was power only or something like that.

Thanks Colt45,

Looks pretty good, even at the full "under $10" price. Maybe I will get a few of them when my email arrives, though I guess small quantities will be well over 10$

Got the email today that they are available for preorder. I ordered two (the maximum).

I was pleasantly surprised that shipping is free (to Canada at least - can't say for the members that are further flung from Texas. Doubt it's coming from Dallas anyway, more likely the orient, so... might be free to all, which would be nice).
So the total for two units shipped was $9.98 or something like that... pretty reasonable.

>Orders begin shipping on 25-Sept-2012. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery from this date.

Tritto...

Shipping is free to UK too.

Many thanks to JoOngle for the tip-off, and thanks to Colt45 for clarifying the details.

EDIT: and the ARM chip it is on the list of chips that mikroE C compiler supports, so I should even be able to program the thing. I will have that LED flashing in no time smile.gif

I bet there will be quite a bit of us in here, and fiddling around with that thing during the cold winter-days. Do tell when you guys get yours.

Got an update from ti today, expected ship date for my order is apparently 2012.10.08.

Maybe they got a bit more interest than originally anticipated..?

Got notice from TI of shipment today, a week ahead of schedule. Checked the tracking number, and it looks like it's being sent fedex overnight. Pretty sweet for free shipping.

Now let's just hope I don't get tariffed and brokerage-d up the ass...

I'll uh.. post pictures when they show up, i guess smile.gif

Anyone gotten theirs yet?

Haven't gotten mine yet.

All I got a few weeks ago was "Your status has been updated, log on to TI to check it out".
"Status - processing order"

Hm...Processing order? It's still processing order...

Ah!

Finally got mine 2 units. Scrolling trough it's RGB lights as we speak. Say...did you see the videos that TI has provided on youtube?

They have really gone trough fire and ice to make sure we get started properly. Seems like this is going to be some extra fun during those cold winter nights at home.

5 Bucks for a devboard....lol....complete with a programming IDE.

sooooo, yeah. what is it?

i see the price is $12.99, so they missed their "under $10" mark.

idk wtf a "dev board" is, im guessing that this is something like a pic chip or an arduino board, or a stamp module? if so, even at $13, its not so bad. ive played with the stamp a bit, and a very little bit with the arduino, and, iirc, put a hell of a lot more than $13 each into both of those.

I got mine two 'launchpads' yesterday. Looking forward to play around with a new ARM processor. From the specs it looks fairly well equiped. Good value for $5 each.

Can't be compared to either the Arduino or the PIC, well above from my point of view.

Let's have some fun!

I also got my 8x8 RGB 6cm x 6cm dot matrix display today...

check out what someone else did with it...and the TI....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwq0-ocWkYk

Fun stuff, I want to make mine Multi-Color though as I have the RGB version of the display cool.gif

What are you guys doing with yours?

I've done absolutely nothing with mine yet. Word on the street is there is support for flashing/debugging on linux now, or soon, so that will be nice.

I'll have to do something when I get some spare time. I got two bloody reels of I2S DACs from work a while back, so I might try something with that.

oh.. no I2S. hmm. Guess I'll be using the STM32F4 discovery for that.

Cool. I sorta ignored this thread, assuming that it was another one of those "Sorry, we don't ship outside the USA" things. Maybe I'll have to put my name in for one.

One of those quaint English expressions that kinda sounds negative but actually means good.

I love these boards now that they have arrived, and 10$ for two boards makes me much happier than the big bucks I wasted on Raspberry Pi.

And to make things even better.... MikroElectronica sell a "click" adapter, and I have loads of "click" boards.

Only trouble is... I cant work out how to use Launchpad with MikroElectronica tools (compiler and debug).

Sad for now, but will cheer up when I, or someone else, solves the problem of using Launchpad with MikroElectronika compiler sad.gif

Guess I had better get soldering to see if I can connect all those empty through-holes to MikroProg programmer somehow smile.gif

I sense we are all waiting for someone else to do something with the boards.

Isn't there a forgotten "challenge" thread on the forum somewhere?

Yep, It'll be a lot of fun. TI has included (download section) A complete 1.3 GB download of Code Composer IDE, so everything should be included to get started on simple programming right away.

Mine is sitting next to my pc right now, and I'm kind of hoping getting around to this device around Christmas time (When I actually have some days off from work), Right now I'm simply too exhausted coming home from work to bother to do anything new. Coding requires a fresh and rested mind, trust me...I've done that before. rolleyes.gif
