I'm working on a Heathkit W-5M and am wondering if I should replace the Pyramid IMP capacitors in it. Are they paper in oil types, like Black Beauties? The amp has two black 1 MFD Pyramid IMP capacitors and some black 0.1 MFD Pyramid IMP capacitors in it. I was thinking of replacing them with polypropylene caps.

No clue. Are they showing signs of being leaky?

There's a discussion over here

Looks like they should be replaced.

I'd replace them, personally. I don't trust old paper caps. Especially not in a W5M,be a shame if it smoked an output transformer as a result,or something.

I got 20 of these BEC-H2620K 0.1uF 1200V capacitors that the seller says are metalized polypropylene capacitors.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-lot-of-20-Bish...23737444?_ul=BO
They were sold on a US Ebay auction. I can't find too much information on them on the internet. It says "BEC-H2620K 0.1uF +/- 10% 1200VDC " on the capacitors. I was thinking of using those in the W-5M.

they will work fine, but you probably could have found some .1 uf poly-somethingelse, 250vac rated X2 caps for much less money.

also you should be able to find several .1uF 250vac rated capacitors inside any emi filter of any dead switching power supply.

I believe they are paper and wax. You could check them for leakage under full voltage, but I would replace them.

cheers

Yeah, if it's paper, and it's not hermetically sealed paper-oil, or semi-modern plastic+paper like MKP ->> trash.
