Hi all,

Just a quick question regarding a previous post. Geek provided me with a
matrix key layout fro a project I am working on

What I would like to know is which pins should I connect these to on a parallel
(printer) cable to allow data to be sent to the PC.

Thanks

Ok, let take this link for example: http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connect...el_PC_Port.html

You have there all the pins described. You are a programer so the rest should be easy work tongue.gif

You could also search this forum for parallel stuff, you will find lot's of hits.

Best bet would be to use a row-column encoder IC such as a 74922.

*Normally* the D0-D8 are the 'Parallel' data lines.
The G0-7 are the respective grounds (for long cables - makes D0-D7 twisted pairs for higher noise immunity)

The 'C' and 'S' are rarely used and may or may not be accessable depending on PC HW / SW.

Hell yes. Huh, just looked at the DATASHEET (from 1995), didn't know the animal existed. Nice IC.

Ooh, looky... Though I generally don't condone powering a circuit from the port, the IC has a wide operating Vcc range and <1.5mA draw - no problem for the port. Also nice is the on board debouncing feature and data validation output. Depending on how you intend to read your data this can be very useful for presenting stable data to the port.
