Sister's on a roadtrip somewhere. Forgot her camera charger at home, battery's already dead.

Told her:

Go to Dollartree and get a USB power pack thingy for $3, and some speaker wire for $1.

Rip the power pack apart (it'll be shitty clip-together plastic). Inside is 1 battery and a tiny circuit board that converts USB 5v into 4.2v for lithium batteries. Take it out if you want, else just connect a wire from the positive, and another one to the negative, wedge them in there against the terminals. Connect the other ends to the matching terminals on your camera battery. They'll just be metal strips so you'll have to hold them there, so double up a few rubber bands to hold them still. Then you can charge the power pack via USB, which will actually be charging your camera battery instead of the internal battery, it won't know the difference.

You might need some tin foil strips to fit into the battery terminals.

I coincidentally had all these items within arms reach (and coincidentally a camera battery of my own that was dead and had no idea where the charger was) so it took me literally less than 2 minutes to rig, no soldering, here's a picture:

Took me longer to MSpaint the captions than it did to build it. tongue.gif

Bonus points... I wasn't at home. I was at work. My job involves 0% electronics. Not quite coat-pocket, but, not bad.

I'll post her results in the morning, see if she burned the car down.

So... how'd it go?

If it's an extended trip, ya might consider mailing one to intercept her at a local post office.

Hopefully she got it rigged though. beer.gif

She decided that social engineering was superior to halfassed engineering.

I.E. She found a Walmart before a dollarstore, Walmart had a suitable Cannon cable. Walmart also has a 90-day return policy and it'll be in indistinguishable-from-new condition when she returns it.

My hacking remains without value or merit.

Better luck next time.

IIRC, Walmart has a 30 day limit on returning electronics.

It's been years since I returned anything though, so that may have changed. beer.gif
