Was working out tensile strength of a pipe joint under pressure and came up with the ID diameter of a pipe equalling one square inch is 1.128", yet somehow this looked funny to me when I kinda drew it out with a ruler and compass to 'confirm' it for my eyes.

is (2 sqrt Area/pi) the correct way to go about this?

1/3.14 = .3184

sqrt .3184 = .564

564*2 = 1.128

According to my calculations, a diameter of 1.128" gives an area of 0.9993 square inches (close enough for government work?). biggrin.gif

Peculiar.

Area = pi*r^2

Area / pi = r^2

Sqrt(Area / pi) = r

And r = d/2, so, yep. 2 * sqrt(Area / pi) = D

D = 1.129" (rounds up)

1.129 is also root(1/(pi/4))
