Alright, I'm ready for this. wink.gif

Currently, I have an HT with two battery packs charged and ready to go. The 75 watt 2m transceiver in my car has been brought inside, so has the 5/8 wave antenna I use it with. My office has a tri-band transceiver ready to go with an antenna that's elevated up in the attic. (6m, 2m, 70cm).

Like with hurricane Matthew, I will be monitoring all bands I can possibly listen to. During matthew I was able to assist someone on 6m, so I plan to definitely do this again this year.

As for monitoring the storm, I have 3 methods right now. Internet, dialup terminal (via the old IBM), and the NOAA frequency on my transceivers. (All 3 transceivers can receive it).

Internet - Well that's just obvious.
Dial up - A friend across the country is offering me his assistance, by allowing my modem in the IBM to dial in, to directly connect me to rainmaker.wunderground.com telnet.

3 methods for backup to each other, just in case. As for power, we don't have a generator, but I have an inverter. My car will be used as a generator if required. Even if the car gets damaged, as long as it can start, it's a usable generator.

I can't think of anything else I can possibly do to prepare. Any advice? I already just got back from the grocery store and got pre-cooked canned goods, some large bogo pack of potato chips, anything that doesn't need to be heated, or cooled. I'm bottling my own water.

Sounds to me that you know about adding the nearest two fingers to the "bird salute". Were you an Eagle Scout? Their motto, "Always Be Prepared" suits you. LOL

My only two finger salute right now is two middle fingers aimed at the direction of Irma, haha.

The live stream has started. Perhaps a couple days early, but apparently the winds have already picked up from the outer bands and caused some damage already, wow.

Feel free to share the link if you want, but just remember, it's a little early.

At least they expect it to track up the west coast, which should help you a good bit.

Still won't be a picnic though, so be careful and stay safe. beer.gif

He's stuck, road closures and too much traffic.

Any word from your Dad?

How did things go at your house?

I'm alive, he's alive. The homes we are both in are both still standing. We sustained some damage here, and surprisingly had power, but all telecommunications systems went down, no land line, no cell phone, no cable internet. Where my father was, the roads almost flood, very close to the street he was at.

Here's some of the aftermath: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqVH1SuhP90

Yea, I have no idea how I have power because most of my city is without. Even the street lights across the street are out, and so are the traffic lights.

...glad that you made it through safely.. It looks like your house didn't suffer any major damage, and your car seems to have made it through okay, too.. That's good..

Yep, we got pretty lucky here.. The house did lose some panels on the back exposing the attic, so it will need some repair, but nothing I can't do on a ladder.

Also, you sound more like LGR than I remember. tongue.gif

Answering questions is a tricky subject to practice. Not due to the difficulty of formulating or locating answers, but due to the human inability of asking the right questions; a skill that, were one to possess, would put them in the "answering" category.
