Hello Everybody!
I was hanging around that other day looking at some of the member names found here , and then frankly poped the curiosity into my head trying to know why that buddy calls him/herself like dat...I guess you guys asked yourselves that too , right? So that's why I initiated tis thread to find the story behind everybody's name , cool heh? OK , OK I shall start! hehehe I named myself C++dude because I'm originally(and still) a C++ programmer who found himself on a totally alien planet , if I go back a couple mounths or even weeks into the past , I could never imagine myself fiddling around with transistors , IC's , etc because I need/ed a certain piece of hardware that is hard to find in the market , I was forced to voyage into the Dragon's Cave , if U know what I mean... Not trying to diss electronics but that's how I went up here , So here I'm! hehe Enough of me! now what about your name?? hey , why do you call yerself like dat! -------------------- NiteCo.com

XenoTime is a name of a mineral as I am interested in minerals and biochemistry.
'Xeno' comes from Latin and means 'alien'. As you can see the name has sort of double meaning. That suits me as I am big fan of all 'X-files' & 'Star Wars' related things and Erich von Daniken reader. Here is brief descripion of xenotime mineral from http://www.galleries.com/ : THE MINERAL XENOTIME Chemistry: YPO4, Yttrium Phosphate Class: Phosphates Uses: As mineral specimens and as a source of yttrium. Xenotime is one of the very few minerals, let alone words, that starts with the letter X; a good word to remember in some word games. It is a widely spread mineral throughout the world although good crystals and therefore specimens are somewhat hard to find. It is one of the few yttrium minerals known to science. Wakefieldite and chernovite-(Y) are other yttrium minerals, although a vanadate and an arsenate respectively. Often uranium or other rare elements such as erbium, thorium, ytterbium, zirconium and the not so rare calcium are found as traces in xenotime replacing the yttrium. Due to the presence of at least some of these radioactive elements, xenotime is frequently slightly radioactive. Xenotime also will contain traces of silicon dioxide and arsenate replacing the phosphate anion. In fact it forms a solid solution series with the previously mentioned chernovite-(Y) whose formula is YAsO4. It is unusual to have a solid solution series involving the principle anions but it is not as complete a solid solution series as the more famous pyromorphite-vanadinite-mimetite series. That is a more complex phosphate-vanadate-arsenate series. Also of note is that xenotime is one of the few phosphate minerals that does not contain water molecules, hydroxides or chlorides. It belongs to an informal group of phosphates and called the anhydrous phosphates along with monazite, purpurite and lithiophyllite. The crystals of xenotime are similar to zircon and can easily be confused with the duller lustered, less transparent samples of zircon. However, the cleavage and the softness of xenotime are sufficient to distinguish them. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Color is most commonly various shades of brown but also gray, greenish brown, muted red and yellow. Luster is vitreous to resinous. Transparency: Crystals are translucent to opaque. Crystal System is tetragonal; 4/m 2/m 2/m Crystal Habits include stubby to elongated prismatic crystals that are terminated by variously slanted dipyramids. Also known for nice rosette and radial aggregates. Cleavage is perfect in two prismatic directions. Fracture is uneven. Hardness is 4 - 5 Specific Gravity is approximately 4.4 - 5.1 (heavy for translucent minerals) Streak is pale brown to yellow or red. Other Characteristics: Trace amounts of uranium and other rare earth elements may render crystals slightly radioactive. Associated Minerals are quartz, micas especially biotite, monazite and some feldspars. Notable Occurrences include Arendal, Hittero and Tvedestrand, Norway; Madagascar; several locations in Brazil and also in the United States in Colorado, California, Georgia and North Carolina. Best Field Indicators are color, crystal habit, cleavage, softness and luster. -------------------- If our Gods and our hopes are nothing but scientific phenomena, then let us admit it must be said that our love is scientific as well.

Yeah, few I've wondered about over time - and a few I'd wished I thought of first.
Mine aught to be pretty obvious too... My name is Jim and I work with copiers. Found this place a few years ago because I was heading for a divorce so I started living at the office and hanging out on the net. I had joined an (auto) mechanic oriented forum first, but the membership seemed to be more into "bench racing urband legend" and "grampappy did er like this" than actual theory. Dropped out of site after being shat upon for suggesting that alternators actually load an engine. Found this place right about then and been here ever since. Better breed to be sure. -------------------- Hey! what's in here - is it a toy? oh. Hey! What's in here - is it a toy? oh.

Sch3mat1c -- electrical connotation, and a little "leet-speak" to tweak it. A.K.A. "T3sl4", "T3sl4co1l", "Tim", "Tim Williams". Third (teslacoil) more for coils themselves; I don't have one in any condition to speak of at the moment. Tesla in general for his invention of alternating current, generation and distribution. And he was a mad mofo.
Tim -------------------- Answering questions is a tricky subject to practice. Not due to the difficulty of formulating or locating answers, but due to the human inability of asking the right questions; a skill that, were one to possess, would put them in the "answering" category.

I used to have all sort of nicknames before. Then the last time I watched the olympics on TV there was this Oleksandr dude from Ukraine or somewhere around there. Funny how I didn't understand at first until I actually spelled it and said Oooohhh.
My name is Alejandro so instead of going out to every forum/site/game to find that Alejandro/Alexander/Alex and every other Alex~ you can think of are already taken, I've found Oleksandr to be not so popular or bound to be taken so I've already grabbed it wherever I can. Plus it adds some sort of consistency for my own mental sake, instead of being this and that over here and there, i.e., I just met a cute japanese girl in another forum with the same kitty avatar as you, but that doesn't mean you're her, yet if you meet Oleksandr at an AoE session, GlobalOps, NexusTK, Wikipedia, DeviantArt, GPWiki, etc., you might as well talk to him for it might be me (olexandr on youtube though -------------------- THINK. Duuuuuude I so recommend you grab yourself a copy of Final Fantasy 7 and a Playstation to play it if you don't have one. One of the most ellaborate and <insert adjective for intrigue> stories ever made for a game. There's already a movie that picks up from the end of the game, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. -------------------- THINK. Everything depends on it.

Howdy,
I picked up this nickname some years ago because of some circuits that "couldn't be done". I like this website because the contributors are electronics doers, they get an idea and then go after it. A lot of people in the field spent far too much time reading about electronics before they ever tried to make any, consequently they lack imagination in execution and can always find reasons why something won't work before even trying it. |

Crane is my last name, 550 is my fav. number.
I got the number when I was younger and worked on a dairy farm. Cows are usually miserable, annoying, groucy, and otherwise completely devoid of any means of affection, with the rare exception. All the cows were tagged in the ear with an ID, and number 550 had always been one of those (affectionate) types, who would eat grain out of your hand and like to be scratched behind the ears. Anyways, my big number is devoted to my friendship with a cow. How lame is that. (Normally I would be exposing myself to all kinds of crude jokes, but I know you all are mature and above that.) -------------------- An expert on my own opinion.

A nickname I got when I worked on a trials site with 3 other Johns, as I was the oldest. John seems to have dropped out of favour as a name now, wereas it was very common when I was born. Thinking about, it the 'gov' bit of govjohn sounds a bit pompous so I think I'll change it. John.

The nick Gorgon is from an old Norwegian telvision series for children, made back in the late -60's, 1968-69. It was rather controversial at the time, and only 5 episodes was ever made. It was a dolls movie, and one of the characters was Gorgon the caretaker.
For those interested, this is a fan site, in norwegian, but you can see the Gorgon character with the cap, in picture 2 from left. A rather ugly fellow.Fan site TOK -------------------- Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until they speak!

Oh...someone challenges me to pony up with the story behind
"JoOngle" (Notice the two oO's ?) They're eyes. JoOngle is a pet name of mine for "Hugo the JungleJack" based on a story made by Flemming Quist Moeller (a Danish writer/storyboarder/artist) that makes childrens stories that are quite famous over here. ![]() There he is, cute aint he? Well....the story is a rather sad, demented and somewhat weird story that started with a newfound passion for making animated movies many MANY years ago (Think it's about 12 now....) I was a computer/radio technician before that, and then I saw this movie about how they made cartoon characters in Denmark and I was awestruck and my jaw literally fell down to the ground when I learned it was actually done by hand. I immediately began to practice, and since I was new to the concept of drawing....I didn't know what to study so I did it all WRONG by trying to draw that very character from the movie (which later in my life turned me into the laughing stock of Denmark..erhm..well at least A-film) Unfortunately cartoon artists are just like other humans they're either *ssholes or nice people...duh! I guess I kind of believed it took a special "heart" to create such stuff...guess I was naive...oh well - the story is INCREDIBLY long so I'm not going to bore you with 12 years of details on how I moved from norway to denmark to attend animation- schools and artschools..and how I struggled to succeed. etc. So I'll make it incredibly short. Kid grew up - foreign country - all alone - hardened the though way now works in an ad-agency doing gadgets'n'stuff which is cool but wasn't my dream, but acceptable. So my forum name JoOngle has been my name on the net for 10 years, in videogames (Jedi Knight II, Quake 2, 3, Battlefield and tons of others)...plus on the Blender scene...basically everywhere. Hmmm... (btw: Gorgon - Pompel and Pilt ROCKS!!!) -------------------- If my soul was software, I could program myself and you.
