DIY Test Instrument Challenge:

As you guys have voted for the first challenge the first half of April, and you all basically voted differently, I had to pick a random selection from YOUR votes, so the challenge fell on DIY Test instrument, can you build one?

Of course it doesn't have to be time consuming or advanced, theoretically you could hook up an analog meter and make a voltmeter out of it, connect a few external components to it...and it could measure something else? There are no limitations other than your imagination.

And if you want to go all out, you could even make that spectrum analyser that anyone could afford, or maybe a curve tracer unit to add to your oscilloscope so it becomes a very powerful component tester?

How about a simple transistor tester? That counts as an DIY Test instrument too...or perhaps a capacitance meter? Frequency counter?

Maybe some Test instrument you didn't know you needed? How about making an oscilloscope with a laser diode and rip out some mirrors from an old laser disc?

Your idea? Show us your mad science stuff!

Rules:

The rules are simple, just build it any way you want, with whatever components you choose, it may even be digital, analog and even built with tubes only if you so should wish. Just built it from scratch, that's all.

You do NOT have to provide a schematic, albeit if you do...extra credits for you!

You DO have to provide a youtube video of your creation, in a somewhat believable fashion, such as just filming your working contraption. And explaining your circuit would help towards the final scoring.

As usual, there are no other prizes that the forum honor, besides... this would be fun to get over that last bit of winter we have left before the summer breaks out.

The Deadline for this competition is: 16th of April 2015.

Good luck to everyone.

does it have to be made during the contest? i just made a super complex, high tech (4 components total, including the battery) device a week and a half ago that might fit the criteria.

Yes, that's the idea of the contest.

I make a lot of stuff too I could just throw into any contest, but the whole idea with a contest is the element of surprise and that you sort of have to do it within a set time, and everyone has to start on the same terms to make it fair to everyone.
